She thought I was ashamed which was the cause of me covering my face.
Well…. In a way, I was.
Denying my true heritage 😒😒
What a disgrace you are, Gem.
“Back to Earth Gemma.”, she said as she frantically waved her hands in front of my face.
Guess I zoned out😑😑.
“I’m sorry ma what did you say?”
“I was asking you about where you live now.”
“Oh, I don’t have anywhere to stay ma.”
“Hmmmm, okay. Let me get something straight, you are a homeless kid who wants to go to school and become successful in life.RIGHT?”
Huh…. That wasn’t what I planned.
Heck everything that’s happened today are so not what I planned.
But I guess I’ll just have to go with the flow of things.
“Okay so this is what will happen. I’ll register you as my daughter now then after school is over we’ll talk on the next action to take”.
“I don’t even know you”, I said in my mind.
You didn’t think I’d say that out loud did you? 😏😏
Guess she could read my thoughts, “Don’t worry dear, if you don’t feel good about me no problem. I’ll find you somewhere to stay and you can still attend school without having anything to do with me.”
“Can I think about this ma?”
“Sure thing. Let me know your decision after school. Now that’s over, let’s get you registered.Shall we?”, she requested while holding out her left hand.
I looked at it, unsure why she held out her hand.
“You know, to buttress the mother -daughter °connection°”, she explained with a smile.
I replied with an “Oh” and took her hand.
Together we walked towards the Administrator’s office, ignoring all questioning looks people gave us.
I don’t blame them, they probably didn’t know this woman had a daughter this old.
“Good morning Miss Dunni”, an older looking woman greeted as we entered the office.
So that’s her name, dumb me😒😒. I didn’t even bother asking my new benefactor for her name.
I’m a sour excuse for a good girl😶😶.
Their conversation brought me back to Earth.
“I see you are here to register your…. Niece I presume?”
“Yes ma. This is Gemma Anderson. My elder brother’s first daughter.”
I thought we agreed on daughter??!??
I kept cool though, not giving my face any chance of betraying my thoughts.
Registration done and dusted.
While it was going on, I had time to properly study the lady whom I mistook for a woman.
Don’t look at me like that dear reader, I know what you are thinking 😏😏.
There’s a difference between a woman and a lady 👒.
Don’t argue with me, just accept it like that 😋😋.
Now back to what I was saying earlier, I studied her well and I realized why she eventually called me her niece instead.
She was too young to have a 15 year old as a child.
I’m guessing she’s in her mid-20’s.
She shouldn’t be more than 5ft1inch tall.
A moderate height.
Fair in complexion, she has this cute baby face that’s so yummy to look at😝😝.
Great, I got a beauty queen for an adopted aunt.
Which I might add, is the only good thing that’s cheered me up so far.
“Do you know why I introduced you as my niece instead?”, she asked as we walked to my assigned class.
“Yes ma.You are way too young to have me as a child.”
Awwwwn her smile is cuteee😋😋.
“Smart Alec, I like you already.”
“Me three”, we heard a new voice.
I looked back to see Ada walk towards us.
Miss Dunni looked surprised to see her.
“Ada, do you know Gemma?”
“Yes ma, we boarded the same bus to school this morning”, we both answered at the same time.
I know I know.
The question was directed to her but by now you should realize my mouth sometimes works on it’s own😒😒.
Perhaps I should get a tape.
That’s for later.
“Oh I see. That’s good then. You already have a friend “, she said to me.
“Wait let me get something straight here, you two are related??”
I forgot the forever inquisitive human being I had as a friend.
I don’t know if you guessed right… She said yes, I said no.
Poor Ada got confused 😅
